Medicare Reciprocal Agreement Countries

You are treated as if you were in the country in question. In general, these agreements apply to British nationals living in the United Kingdom. If you are not a British national, you can still be insured for an inexpensive or free treatment if you normally live in the UK. The United Kingdom has mutual health agreements with several non-EEA countries and territories. If you plan to live or work in one of the countries of mutual agreement, the information contained in the links below may not apply. Australia has a mutual health agreement with the UK, which means that UK residents are able to get some health services free of charge while visiting Australia. Medicare does not offer services for treatment received abroad. However, eligible Australian residents are entitled to medical assistance in the following countries that have signed mutual health agreements with the Australian government: residents of certain countries can access Medicare through reciprocal Health Care Agreements (RHCA). We recommend that you purchase appropriate travel insurance for travel abroad, as the mutual health care agreement is unlikely to cover all medical expenses incurred in these countries. The agreements do not cover the cost of repatriation to the UK (repatriation) or routine monitoring of existing conditions.

Australia has mutual health agreements with New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Italy, Norway, Malta, Belgium, Slovenia and Ireland. Each mutual agreement is different and varies in terms of both benefits and eligibility duration. The agreements do not apply to all health services. Some services that are not covered by the agreements are: – treatment that is not immediately necessary, ambulance care, dental care, para medical services, medical evacuation in your home country, burials, treatment and accommodation in private hospitals or as private patients in a public hospital, electoral treatment, pre-ordered treatment before arrival in Australia. This is why it is strongly recommended that all visitors from the countries of mutual insurance take out adequate medical insurance. HICA has developed a number of policies specifically designed for foreign visitors based on the type of visa and the length of your stay in Australia. If you would like to benefit from our free evaluation and promotion service, please fill out an evaluation form so that we can provide you with our professional recommendations and offers that best meet your specific needs If you visit one of the countries on this page and you need urgent or immediate medical treatment, it will be made available at a reduced cost or , in some cases, for free.
