Within sixty (60) days of the entry into force of this Agreement, each Party shall, without offering any obstacle, directly repatriate and surrender in groups all prisoners of war who insist on repatriation from the side to which they belonged at the time of capture. When the ceasefire was signed on July 27, 1953, the talks had already lasted two years, entangled in z.B. the exchange of prisoners of war and the situation of a demarcation line. Both sides regularly accuse each other of violating the agreement, but accusations have multiplied due to rising tensions over North Korea`s nuclear program. South Korea never signed the ceasefire agreement because President Syngman Rhee refused to agree not to unite Korea by force. China normalized relations and signed a peace treaty with South Korea in 1992. .
